About Bonaire

A beautiful landscape and a wonderful underwater world

Pekelmeer

Must see 3: Pekelmeer

After you have been to Pekelmeer, you will never wonder where salt comes from again. Salt production is one of Bonaire’s most important industries. The local inhabitants dig salt out of the lakebed after the scorching sun has evaporated all the water. It is also an impressive sight to see. You can enjoy looking at gigantic pyramids of salt, the lilac-coloured lake and grazing flamingos.

Must see 4: Cai

You should certainly visit Lac Cai to see the clear blue ocean and the pearly white beach. It is one of the most beautiful places on Bonaire. Lac Cai is located on the east side of the island and has a strong sea breeze. The combination of wind and warm water makes Lac Cai a paradise for windsurfers. Or, if windsurfing is not your thing, you can simply relax with a cocktail in hand at one of the beach bars.
